Omar Gómez González —composer of integrative social lighting · light artist · engineer · transdisciplinary designer— (Naucalpan, State of Mexico) investigates the possibilities for social transformation and the expansion of human consciousness through light and darkness. He employs the poetic and civic grammar of light to reframe everyday perception of time and space, creating interventions that turn the observer into a protagonist and extend the experience toward a shared identity. His practice places technical precision at the service of a philosophical inquiry into the sensory and the elusive qualities of the luminous.
Trained as an Engineer in Communications and Electronics (IPN), with a specialization in Architectural Lighting (UNAM) and the Ibero‑American Diploma in Lighting Design (IBEROILUM), he directs the studio Arquitectura Social de la Luz , where he develops projects across the full spectrum of applied lighting —architecture, urban space, performing arts and experimental projects— integrating sustainability, sensory narrative, night‑sky protection and community participation. Since 2016, within his social light‑art initiative Omsim Onures Seroma Public Project , he has deployed hundreds of light interventions in museums, festivals, universities, cultural centers and public spaces in Mexico and abroad. He has taught, lectured, led workshops and given interviews at various institutions and platforms.
His career has been recognized with national and international distinctions: Construlita Lighting Awards (Audience Choice 2018; Light Art 2021), Estévez Lighting Awards (2022), finalist LUX FUTURUM (China, 2024), selections in the catalogs of the III, IV and V Ibero‑American Biennial of Architectural Lighting, and the International Emerging Artist Award from CODAWORX (Denver, 2022). Richard Kelly Grant from (IES NYC, 2025). He was a Jóvenes Creadores fellow (FONCA 2019–2020), a CTIN Carlos Slim Foundation fellow (2015–2016) and a fellow at the Interdisciplinary Laboratory for Scenic Creation in Interactive Environments (LICEIN, 2017). He was also honored as Talento Naucalpense by the municipal government of Naucalpan (2020).
He directs the studio Arquitectura Social de la Luz, developing projects across the full spectrum of applied lighting—architecture, urban space, performing arts, and experimental projects. His vision integrates sustainability, inclusion, and the protection of dark skies, transforming light and darkness into compositions that transcend the aesthetic and the functional, opening paths to innovation and worldwide impact.
His trajectory is distinguished by the ability to transform any circumstance into a creative opportunity, demonstrating that light and darkness are more than visual phenomena: they are instruments of awareness, inclusion, sustainability and social transformation with global impact.
“Light and darkness are integrative forces: they compose shared attention, reveal invisible narratives and expand human consciousness. My mission is to compose luminous experiences that function as means of social transformation, sustainability and collective identity, demonstrating that even in the face of limitations creativity can illuminate and transcend borders.”
